Growing Better for Summer: What We Learned at the ACA Conference
Ever wonder how camp professionals continue to grow and improve when no two roles look the same? One of the biggest ways we do that is by learning from each other, and there’s no better place for that than the annual camp conference hosted by the American Camp Association NY NJ.
Each March, thousands of camp professionals gather in Atlantic City for the Tri-State Camp Conference, the largest event of its kind. We’ve attended for several years now, and it continues to be an incredible opportunity to learn, connect, and bring back fresh ideas for our campers, staff, and families.
This year’s conference brought together over 4,000 camp professionals, all passionate about creating meaningful experiences for young people. One of the most exciting parts? Seeing just how many different ways camp can be done. From creative program ideas to unique camp structures, it’s inspiring to hear why so many people love what they do, and it pushes us to keep getting better.

Of course, with that many enthusiastic “camp people” in one place, it can feel a little overwhelming at times! But that energy is also what makes it so special. Every conversation, workshop, and shared idea challenges us to grow and think differently.
Some of our favorite sessions this year focused on:
Connecting more effectively with Gen Z staff
Supporting campers who may impact group dynamics
Encouraging respectful communication during conflict
Strengthening emergency planning and camp safety
One of the most meaningful parts of the conference was the opportunity to spend time with our sister camps who were also in attendance. While each camp has its own unique traditions and approach, it’s incredibly valuable to connect, share experiences, and learn from one another. These moments of fellowship remind us that we’re part of a larger camp community, all working toward the same goal of creating impactful, positive experiences for campers. The relationships we build with these fellow camp professionals continue to inspire and support us long after the conference ends.
Beyond the sessions, the conference also connects us with vendors and companies that help enhance the camp experience. This year, we were excited to bring back two brand-new Spikeball sets with improved durability for camper play. We also sampled new food and snack options to keep everyone energized throughout the day. Some highlights included Sqwincher Squeezes (a camp favorite), Pizza, and plenty of classic camp candy.
Everything we learned and discovered has one goal: making Summer 2026 the best it can possibly be for our camp community.
